About MIFF FDC
Since 2010, the MIFF Furniture Design Competition (MIFF FDC) has been the launchpad for emerging furniture design talent, offering a global platform at Southeast Asia’s largest furniture exhibition. With over 3,000 participants and countless success stories of designers launching their own studios and careers, MIFF FDC continues to shape the future of Malaysia’s thriving furniture industry.
As urban living evolves and pet ownership rises across Asia, the need for innovative, space-efficient solutions has never been greater. MIFF FDC 2027 addresses this growing trend with a timely and relevant challenge.

 PAW*-Nexus: The Pet-Friendly Furniture Design Challenge (Harmonising Human & Pet Life in Urban Compact Living)
The Challenge
Create dual-purpose furniture for urban apartments (500-900 sq ft) that serves both humans and pets* seamlessly, integrating pet functionality without compromising aesthetics. Design for both humans and their pets, not standalone pet furniture.
*Pets: Four-legged mammals with paws – dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters

Operating through CONNECT (networking events), SELECT (manufacturing collaborations), and EDIT (editorial showcases), the club delivers real-world benefits including prototype development, production opportunities, and showcase platforms at MIFF, strengthening Malaysia’s furniture industry on the global stage.
